my banana tapestry:)

I was inspired by the "mola", which the indigenous Kuna women of Panama make to wear. Using bright solid-colored fabrics to create images that are both contemporary and traditional, geometric and organic.

matisse's large scale ceramic wall piece "la gerbe" (the sheaf) 1953, was recently donated to lacma by long-time los angeles patrons sidney and frances brody.

Kate and Laura Mulleavy invited me to make my books for a very special event- their show at the Museum of Contemporary Art, "Rodarte: States of Matter", which included the tutus they made for "Black Swan".

i saw the show for which this book was made a few year back at the drawing center in ny. three incredible women artists making abstract pictures, beginning in the early 1900's. this of course, is my version of the cover:)
